2010 Pay Attention to Your Inner Voice

I was waiting for the train several weeks ago and I knew I really hated a conversation at that time, I was having a tough day and all I needed was a quiet place to cool down. I noticed the man who sat behind me had his eyes filled with endless sorrow, and something inside me pushed me to go over and talk to him, something strong that was hard to suppress.

I was struggling to make up my mind, if I were him what would I want others to do? Look at me with sympathy in their eyes without any tangible action? About ten minutes later I decided to do something, to listen to this inner voice of mine. I got my bag and went over to him.

He was indeed suffering from something and from his response I figured he was really going through some hard times. I listened to him and I nodded, I was put in a place to console a hurt heart, and I thought I did a great job comforting him.

He did not tell me exactly what had happened and I did not ask, what he really wanted was to get what was in his mind out and I happened to be there. Half an hour later he seemed relieved and we got on our trains, headed for different destinations, I waved goodbye and he gave me a big, warm smile.

I never expected to hear from him, I did not even know his name, and actually he did not mention his name in our conversation, time was limited then. This package delivered to my place surprised me, together with a pair of Ugg boots was a pink note on which those words were written: a gift for an angel.

In this small note he added that he wanted to kill himself that day, he felt the world was over, he lost everything in his life, his job, his business, his girlfriend; a chapter of accidents robbed him of his faith to believe in people, in the possibility that things would get better, in this world.
I never regretted taking the first step and talking to him despite how unwilling I was at that time, I was glad that I did not become as an indifferent person as others, my negative feelings almost got into me. Pay attention to your inner voice, who knows, it may change another person’s life, and it does not just happen.
